When Centre Rockland first opened in 1959, it had only one floor, except for a Morgan's store. Centre Rockland was built on what used to be a golf course.
In early 1980s, the mall went to the biggest renovations in its history when a second floor, a multi-level parking lot and an Eaton store were added. This was at this time that Centre Rockland became an enclosed mall, reflecting a trend at the time in North America of converting outdoor malls into indoor ones.
In the early 1990's, the mall was the filming location for an episode of a children's horror/fantasy television show called Are You Afraid of the Dark?.
The main floor used to house a Holt Renfrew store that has since closed as well as a Steinberg supermarket which eventually became a Metro, but closed also (now a Pharmaprix).
In 2006, the food court was re-located to the top floor where Eaton used to be; it now sports a retro theme and has many new food outlets. As of 2006, the mall has undergone extensive renovations and now is home to two H&M stores, VERO MODA, JACK & JONES, StyleXChange, Diesel, Rudsak, Harry Rosen, Buffalo, Le Château, Michael Kors, Stuart Weitzman Benetton, Zara, Mexx, Guess and many more.
In 2007, the Sports Experts store was moved from its location on the second floor to the now vacant food court area at the underground level. It has expanded to hold both 'Atmosphere' and 'Hockey Experts' sub-franchises and is now one of the biggest Sports Experts stores in Canada.
In 2008, the older '80s logos at the mall's exterior were removed in favor of the current logo which has been used since the 1990s in the mall's official website and brochures.
Centre Rockland has three floors but only its second and third floors serves mainly as shopping space.
The first floor, which in fact is the mall's underground level, only has four tenants: Sports Experts (including its sub-banners Atmosphere and Hockey Experts), a Nautilus Plus fitness club, a Eggspectation restaurant and a Urban Planet shop.
The second floor (or main floor) features boutiques, as well as anchors Linen Chest (part of the old Eaton space), Pharmaprix and longtime tenant la Baie.
Like the second floor, the third floor (or top floor) mostly consists of boutiques but also includes the mall's food court. La Baie's second floor is located on the mall's top floor.
Ivanhoe Corporation started owning interests in Centre Rockland in the 1970s. Despite being co-owner, Ivanhoe Corporation never managed the mall.
After Ivanhoe Corporation became Ivanhoe Cambridge in 2001, it continued to be co-owner of Centre Rockland while management of the mall was handled at the time by the Westcliff Group. By 2003, Ivanhoe Cambridge owned Centre Rockland at 87%. That year, Ivanhoe Cambridge purchased the remaining 13% stake to become not only full owner of the mall, but also its manager for the first time in history.
Today, the mall remains wholly owned and managed by Ivanhoe Cambridge.
